New application for New Application for Selective Licensing

From the 1 November 2023 Selective scheme 3 is a requirement in 2 wards - Ilford Town and Valentines.

From Monday 8 April 2024 Selective Scheme 4 will be in force in a further 15 wards within Redbridge. These wards are Aldborough, Barkingside, Chadwell, Churchfields, Clementswood, Cranbrook, Fairlop, Goodmayes, Hainault, Loxford, Mayfield, Newbury, Seven Kings, South Woodford, and Wanstead Village. We are accepting applications now for Scheme 4.

Before starting your application, please check the postcode of your rental property falls within a licensable ward. You can do this by using the interactive maps for each scheme:

Interactive map for Selective scheme 3: If your property falls into the blue shaded area, you will need a selective licence.
Interactive map for Selective scheme 4: If your property falls into the red shaded area, you will need a selective licence.

Please note that you will have 28 days from the day you start your application to submit it. Failure to submit your application within the 28 days may result in enforcement action being taken against you, and your tenants applying for a Rent Repayment Order

Please note that a Selective Licence is for a single related household or two unrelated people sharing a property only. Examples of a single household/ 2 unrelated sharers include:

  • Can be any number of people if all related include Cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, Mum and Dad and kids subject to room size suitability (not overcrowded) Classed as ONE household.
  • Can be a single person.
  • Can be two unrelated people. (As soon as 3 people forming 2 or more unrelated households i.e. married couple and friend= 2 unrelated Households, 3 friends = 3 unrelated households) it becomes an HMO
